Dorothy Hamill (born 26 July 1956) is an American retired ice skater and athlete. At the Winter Olympic Games in Australia in 1976, she won the gold medal. And also the 1976 World Single Champion in ladies.

She is also known for her rink steps and signature bobbed hair cut. She was born in the United States in Chicago, Illinois. She is the youngest of three babies born to Carol Hamill and Chambers.
Her dad was a manager at the Pitney Bows Firm. Her family moved to the Greenwich neighborhood of Riverside, Connecticut, where she was raised.
She attended public school in Riverside and then switched to a small school flexible timing in order to accommodate her skating schedule. She graduated from Colorado Academy High School.
She learned to skate with her siblings on her grandmother’s ponds at the age of eight. Her parents allowed her to take lessons to improve her technique including skating backward.
When she was 14 she was being privately tutored so that she could skate up 7 hours a day. In 1970 she trained in Denver, Colorado under the supervision of legendary skating coach “Carlo Fessi”.

Biography of Dorothy Hamill
This intense training paid off; she was a three-time U.S national champion in 1974,1975, and 1976. And the also 1976 world championship.
She was also the last female skater who win an Olympic Gold Medal with no triple jump. Besides a skater, she is also known for her hair cut. Which was widely imitated.
She had a wedge-style haircut that kept her hair short and out of her sight. She made it into a pro and started skating with Ice Capades in 1977, which she later owned and operated from 1993 to 1995.
She wrote an autobiography titled “On and Off the Ice.” A second autobiography, ‘A Skating Life: My Story,’ followed this in 2007.
She has participated in several specials on television and performed with other skating companies as well. She held the World Professional Championships from 1983 to 1987.
She won silver at World’s in Colorado Springs, Colorado, behind Dianne de Leeuw of the Netherlands and ahead of Earth.
She is credited with creating a new skating video, a camel spin that transforms into a sitting spin known as the “Hamill Camel.” She was married and twice divorced.
First, she married singer Dean Paul Martin (1982-1984). Then she married Kenneth Forsythe (1987-1995), with whom she had a daughter named Alexandra. In 2009 she married her third husband, John McColl.
