Post Malone’s family moved to Grapevine, Texas, when he was nine years old, with his father taking a position as the Dallas Cowboys’ concessions supervisor. In 2010, he started learning to play the guitar and auditioned for the band Crown the Empire, but he was turned down since his guitar strings snapped while performing. He was a part of a major metal band as a child and appreciated passionate music. Before being interested in softer stone and hip-hop music, Malone was younger.
Post Malone’s debut mixtape was released when he was sixteen, and as a result, his Grapevine High School classmates selected him as one of the students “Destined to Become Famous.” He had a job at Chicken Express when he was a teenager. Before relocating to Los Angeles with his friend, the renowned video game decorator Jason Probst, he briefly attended Tarrant County College before quitting.
Post Malone, Probst, and a few other creators and musicians established the collective BLCKVRD and started collaborating on music after arriving to Los Angeles. In August 2015, Malone wrote “White Iverson” in a hurry and made it public. On July 19, 2015, he made a music video for the track available. Malone became a household name in the music business after the song “White Iverson” amassed over a million views in the first month after its release. In August 2015, he penned an agreement with Republic Records.
